About the Lake Travis Education Foundation
What is the Foundation? The Lake Travis Education Foundation (LTEF) was one of the first
education foundations in Texas, incorporated in 1985. Since its
inception, the Foundation has labored to raise money to support
exemplary education in the Lake Travis Independent School District.
In essence, we have become the conduit through which our community
can immediately and positively impact all of our campuses; a
mechanism to help offset growing shortages caused by explosive
growth and the state-mandated "Robin Hood" Plan, to which the Lake
Travis ISD loses millions in tax dollars annually. Contributions made to the Lake Travis Education
Foundation remain in the school district to benefit the school
district. And, because we are a non-profit, 501c3 organization,
contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law, and
donors are issued statements for tax purposes.
How is the Foundation managed?
The LTEF Board of Directors (a maximum of 33 Directors are in
service at any given time) represents a broad spectrum of the
community, and is led by an Executive Director and an elected
What does the Foundation support?
The Foundation supports educational projects and programs
in the Lake Travis ISD through the LTEF Grant program, and awards
Scholarships to exemplary Lake Travis High School seniors.
How much does the Foundation give away?
To date, the LTEF has provided more than $3 million in support to
the students and teachers of the Lake Travis Independent School
District. In 2012-2013, the LTEF Board of Directors approved a total
of $227,920 in grant awards to the district's teachers, and
excelling graduating seniors of Lake Travis High School were awarded
$14,290 in scholarships to further their education.
Why should I donate to LTEF? I already
participate in my school’s PTA/PTO/Booster Club. It’s important to do both. The PTA’s, PTO’s, and Booster Clubs play
critical roles in raising money for immediate, campus-specific needs
and providing parent volunteers to help teachers and administrators
be more effective. The Lake Travis Education Foundation, on the
other hand, raises money for the “bigger picture” enhancements
across the district, including programs that enrich and expand the
learning environment for our students beyond the established
How is the money raised? Donors may contribute to the Friends of the Foundation, LTEF's
year-round sustaining support network. Contributions are also
accepted toward various named scholarship funds that have been set
up by individuals or organizations. The Board of Directors
orchestrates a variety of highly successful fundraising events
throughout the year, including an annual gala and auction and the annual "Fore" the Kids golf tournament.
Does the Foundation have an endowment?
LTEF's Scholarship program provides
donors the opportunity to place a qualifying minimum donation into
an endowment fund through the Foundation, of which only the interest
earned will be awarded annually to chosen scholarship recipients.
The Foundation also manages an endowed Special Care fund which
provides financial assistance for the direct physical improvement of
students who are otherwise unable to afford a recommended procedure.
